Recently, at the 3rd GMIF2024 Innovation Summit, Chen Feng, Vice President of Ruixin Microelectronics, revealed the news of their new generation flagship processor RK3688. Radxa also posted this on X.

The image shows the latest RK3688, which will use the ARMv9.3 instruction set.
How new is this instruction set? The latest ones are Qualcomm Snapdragon 8Gen3, Dimensity 9400, and only ARMv9.2-A.
Adopting Cortex-A7xx full core design, the overall computing power of the CPU can reach 250K DMIPS. RK3588 is a 93K DMIPS, and its performance has almost tripled.
At present, flagship chips commonly use Cortex-A720 as their core, and they all use the ARMv9.2-A instruction set, which means RK3688 will use a newer ARM core.
It is possible to be equipped with Cortex-A730 or Cortex-A735 that have not yet been released. Of course, it could also be using ARMv9.2, and they made a mistake themselves. Maybe it's just Cortex-A720/A725.
What is the concept that the computing power of GPU will reach 1TFlops, NVIDIA GeForce GTX750, The single precision floating-point performance is only 1TFlops.
The NPU performance will reach 16 TOPS, adding one digit directly to RK3588's 6 TOPS.
In terms of memory, 128 bit LPDDR4/4x/5 can be used, which is quite normal.
Another major upgrade is support for UFS4.0. Ah, ah, what kind of concept is this? Currently, flagship phones only use UFS4.0, and the disk performance will definitely experience a surge.
Just by looking at the paper parameters of this Ruixin micro promotion, it can be seen that the RK3688 this time can be said to be a real facelift. In the development board industry, it can be said that a heavyweight bomb was thrown.
Once this parameter is released, I don't think the chips on the development board are too outdated.
RK3688, All aspects point directly to the latest chip technology. I estimate that RK3688 can at worst reach the level of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, and may even exceed expectations, as it uses the latest ARM core.
Although only using a core, using the latest core can be considered a great progress. This progress benefits not only the development board, but also various set-top boxes and e-reader chips.
RK3588, I have already used it very smoothly, and I don't even know how smooth RK3688 will be by then.
And some media predict that RK3688 will be launched next year. If it can really go public in 25 years, then it really can. This makes me increasingly excited about the RK36xx series.
In addition, Ruixin Microelectronics has also released a new mid-range chip, the RK35XX eight core processor, which has two 2GHz Cortex-A72 cores and six 1.8GHz Cortex-A53 cores, an ARM Mali G310 GPU, 800MHz frequency, 2TOPS NPU, plus LPDDR4/4x/5 memory, eMMC 5.1, and UFS 3.0 storage interfaces.
There will also be a new multi-core high-performance CPU that supports 256 bit vector operations, NPU with 16TOPS computing power, high-performance embedded on-chip DRAM with a bandwidth of up to 1Tbps, and two UCIe interfaces for multi chip interconnection, which means that it can achieve the situation of one board, multiple SoCs. This is the capability currently only available in high-end server CPUs.
Overall, the pie drawn by Ruixin Micro this time is a bit big, especially this RK3688, which directly filled our expectations. We hope it doesn't disappoint us. Although it is expected to be released next year, in my experience, it is indeed a bit too early. I estimate that chip production is possible after 25 years of chip production. As for the development board equipped with RK3688, the earliest estimate is by the end of next year.
